40 years ago, one generation built the foundation of the Annual Night of Wine and Roses Gala. 25 years ago, a new generation took the reigns, further solidifying the event as New Jersey’s premier event to support cancer research and discovery and recognize survivors, supporters, and the medical professionals who inspire and make a difference in the lives of those impacted by cancer. For 40 years, the Night of Wine and Roses Gala served as the premier fundraising event for the American Cancer Society in New Jersey. Lead by Dr. and Mrs. Michael and Marlene Nissenblatt, the Executive Committee and its Ambassadors have raised nearly $3 Million in just the last five years alone to support the American Cancer Society’s life-changing mission.
And just as science depends on new discoveries, our mission depends on new changemakers.
Thus, our next event tells two parallel stories: one is the story of scientific progress and discovery in the fight against cancer and one is the story of leadership progress from the visionary chairs who transformed the impact of this event to the Next Generation of changemakers. WE are that generation and the next chapter of our event is Discovery Ball.
Discovery Ball is a premier fundraising gala hosted in various regions to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Like our Night of Wine and Roses, the events bring together corporate executives, changemakers and philanthropic leaders, researchers, healthcare professionals, survivors, caregivers, and more.
In medical research, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is an advanced laboratory technology that rapidly reads and maps the genetic code of DNA or RNA to find specific mutations driving tumor growth. For us, Next Generation Sequencing represents our theme for 2027 – the convening of corporate executives and young professionals, changemakers and philanthropic leaders, researchers, healthcare professionals, survivors, and more to progress in the fight against cancer.
Our mission remains unchanged. The Discovery Ball New Jersey will raise critical funds to support the ACS’ mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. And the traditions people love will continue – please join us on May 7, 2027 for an incredible cocktail hour, renowned auction, dinner program, live entertainment, curated theme, and more.
What does it take to outsmart cancer? Research.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) has helped make possible almost every major cancer breakthrough since 1946. Since then, we’ve invested more than $5 billion in cancer research, making us the largest nonprofit funder of cancer research in the United States, outside of the federal government.
Our Discovery Science department remains committed to finding more – and better – ways to improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
Learn MoreFor more than 10 decades, the American Cancer Society has been dedicated to pursuing better outcomes for every cancer, every life. Today, more people are surviving cancer than ever before, but there is still work to be done. Join us, support us, and help us end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
